Contents Page planning.

Content’s Page Analysis:
·         The contents page is meant to guide the reader and therefore needs to follow the page layout. Left to right and then in columns.
·         Usually sub-headings, to guide the reader and to explain more about that particular title.
·         Need to be able to know who the intended audience are and how can we do this.
·         Vary the type of articles that are included.
·         How many images to use in the contents page to draw the viewer in even more?
·         Take in the layout of the magazine

Top Of The Pops:
·         Target audience for Top of the Pops is for young teenagers but because of the colour scheme and fashion items displayed, we may be more biased in thinking it is for girls.
·         It has all different categories that the sell lines on the front fit into such as the ‘We love shopping’ has pictures of clothes to show the style special.
·         The first think you see on the contents page is an annotated picture of the front cover and has arrow lines which direct you to the page numbers where you can find each section. Making the reader more aware of what they are looking for when they first looked at the front cover.
·         An icon is displayed at the top of the magazine and a line that explains if you see that icon next to anything else, the article is about fame or even a taste of fame for that person.
·         Mainly pictures with each article. Drawing the eye of the reader rather than making them read all the of the snip bits about each page.
·         All the cover lines sum up the article in just a few words making it short and sweet.
·         At the top there is a box which talks about the highlighted sections and how they all show how to get into a boy’s head. All are indicated with the colour yellow.
·         Not obviously a music magazine, more like a gossip magazine.

Record Collection:
·         First reaction, simple and to the point.
·         Masthead of the ‘Title Page’ does not stand out a lot with the black and size 20 font.
·         There are only 5 main pictures and they are all of band instantly proving it is a music magazine, however there are no sell lines of what each band is going to be about.
·         The red stands out a little but not massively because of the black writing which shows the names of the bands.
·         Each page is split into a different category making it easier for the reader to locate certain articles they are looking for.
·         Layout is just writing on the left and pictures on the right making it to the point. Cannot get confused from this layout.
·         At the bottom a hidden strip advertises a limited edition of an album and how an exclusive offer is on a certain page.
·         Dull colour theme compared to the front cover which had black, white and orange. The orange caught the reader’s eye and should have been used on the contents page.
·         Pictures should be spread out more; they look a little bit squashed together. Clear divide.
Codes and Conventions-
·         Note from the editor. If I was to include one I will have to read multiple before.
·         Image is supported with a piece of text and a small cover line e.g quotation. A teaser or taster of what else in that article.
·         Main features at the top of the page and then towards the bottom they are less important.
·         Chronological order within page number and some of them are ‘random’ in terms of prioritising the features.
·         A structure that the whole contents page follows.
·         Cover lines are broken down into genres and sub genres to organise each of the sections.
·         Main story on the front is highlighted..
·         5-10 images are on the contents page to emphasise the article and get the reader to look more into it.
·         Planned photo shoots.
