Claire Maguire Research

Analysis of Claire Maguire Article:
1.     What do you think is the relevance of the term ‘Talking Topshop Blues’?
Reading the second line about how Claire came from ‘shop girl to singing sensation’ suggests she worked there or shopped there and now as she is a well known artist she is now shopping in Topshop and this shows her success.
The blues has connotation of her music or maybe there is an element of sadness.
Alliteration of‘t’ implying a modern, young and hip tapping music beat.
2.     How many columns are there?
There are three columns about Claire Maguire.
3.     How many images?
Only one image is displayed on this article and it is of Claire Maguire herself with a quotation from her underneath.
4.     What connotations does the image give of the artist and the content of the article?
It seems to suggest that the artist is possibly Indie because of the usual black and dark colour scheme along with the strange red twigs featured.
5.     What are your initial impressions of this music features?
A lot of text which suggest it is for a person who is really interested in Claire Maguire music and therefore the amount of text reflects the amount of interest that the viewer will have.

After reading the article:
1.     What techniques does the writer use in the first sentence to engage the reader?
Straight away the editor has starting comparing Claire Maguire to other artists that have just been introduced to the life of fame and how they are therefore moving up in the fame ladder. The last three years the editor has compared them to an artist and this year she has said that it will be Claire Maguire suggesting that she is up and coming in the charts and is going to suit everybody’s taste in music. The writer also labels Claire Maguire as ‘the girl’ suggesting she personally is so unique and this therefore emphasises her even more.
2.     What does ‘ubiquity’ mean?
I think it means that every person will like one of her songs which imply her voice is variable.
3.     What is the focus of paragraph one?
The first paragraph is about Claire Maguire’s success already and all the songs she has already released into the music industry. Also it slips in small details about where she grew up which enhances the comparison to where she has an artist has peaked.
4.     What technique features in Maguire’s quote in paragraph two?
Repetition
5.     In paragraph two, how is Maguire made to sound like an average [person?

Therefore from these questions I can now take into account what they had made the article to be like and some how I can intergrate these elements into my own. With this also being a real life story, I can now realise what we have to use in order to make it seem more realistic and relevant to the artist.
